Microbiome Restoration for Dogs

Does your day start with goop in the doggy poop?

Nature is beautiful at dawn and sharing your walk with your beautiful canine is a great start to any day.

Until the soft goopy poops arrive. The first one can be handled into the bag, the next ones are softer and smell like Yuck.

Your beautiful canine knows mother nature has the answer and pulls you into the bushes to devour random poo pellets.

We have all been there. 

This year Australian veterinary scientists performed poop testing and discovered that 60 % of healthy dogs have dysbiosis. Simply put, too many pathogenic (cause disease) or bad bacteria and fungi. 

The thing we really love in the relationship with our four-legged companion is their love. They unconditionally give us cuddles, and kisses whatever the weather of our moods.

A 2025 report by the American Society for Microbiology covered the issue of the close link between animal health and their human’s health. Pets transfer antibiotic resistant microbes to their humans. Your pet may look healthy and carry these bad bugs. If your immune system is weak the report suggests that kissing your animal is as safe as kissing a toilet seat.

OK, I want to introduce you to an outrageous idea.

This is a problem with a solution and in 2025 I tested my Animal Health Answers solution to gut issues in my patients. I performed a study and presented the findings to the Integrative Vets Australia Conference in October.

The vets at the conference are trialing this solution on themselves first as 60 % of humans have small intestinal dysbiosis too. 

The predisposing main causes of dysbiosis are stress and medications such as antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs and proton pump inhibitors. Environmental factors, including diet and the health of the patient’s mother are also important.

There is no evidence-based answer to this problem, although an enormous body of science is being generated to improve human and animal health through gut-based interventions.

The main problem is the trillions of microbes involved. Our bodies contain over 90 percent microbial DNA. 

These microbes are linked to the health of many organ systems, in addition to the gut including

•  Our companion’s liver health and ability to detoxify toxins.

•  Our companion’s brain health and behaviour.

•  Our companion’s muscle and fascia health and ease of movement.

•  Our companion’s dental health and efficiency of chewing.

•  Our companion’s skin and protection from environmental hazards.

•  Our companion’s reproductive organs and ability to create new life.
  

 The supplements available for dysbiosis only suppress the symptoms and need to be given long term. The cost for a gut health bundle for a 25 kg dog given for ten years is more than $24,000.

My outrageous idea is to replace the bad bugs with a lifetime of good bugs, the pathogenic bacteria with health promoting strains of good bacteria proven by science to generate health.
